Origin, Production and Features
The modern qipao evolved from the traditional robes worn by the Qing people. The modern qipao places greater emphasis on feminine elegance and grace.
The qipao is characterised by a right-side overlapping front closure, decorative knotted buttons (pankou), side slits on both sides or on the right side, a stand-up collar, a fitted waist, and either short sleeves or no sleeves. The hem of a qipao is generally no longer than ankle length and may be as short as above the knee.
Qipaos are made from a variety of fabrics, including silk, cotton, linen, and blended synthetic fibres. Modern qipao designs are typically simple and refined, featuring clean lines and a sleek silhouette.

現代的旗袍蛻變於清人傳統之袍，兩者相比，樣式、剪裁、顏色等方面都格外不同，簡而言之，就是現代旗袍更具女性婉約之美。
旗袍特徵是右斜襟，帶裝飾性盤扣，兩側或右側開衩，立領，收腰，短袖或無袖。
旗袍的下擺最長不會觸碰腳面，下擺最高會在膝上。
面料以絲綢、棉、麻、或者化學纖維等多種材質混紡，現代旗袍設計簡潔、線條明朗。
